This past month started off strong with a formal chapter visit from Brian Shell and Amy Lillibridge on March 5. Updates were given on Summer Outing, study abroad programs, and renovations on the Scholarship House for the summer.
Four of our Scholars: David Smith, Megan Hedges, Jordan Lykowski and Kathleen Doolittle, received awards for earning a perfect 4.0 GPA! With that being said, 18 Scholars earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and our chapter has a cumulative 3.2 GPA.
The following week was spring break, and many of our Scholars traveled to various destinations for the week. Ashton Knies and Maddy Giannini spent their week in Rome, visting the Colosseum, St. Peter's Basilica, the Roman Forum and the Trevi Fountain. Tommy Milhalkanin and Jordan Lykowski spent their Spring Break in Colorado, where snowboarding and skiing were part of the everyday routine. On the warmer side, David Fahnbulleh, Quynh Nyguen, Lenny Chocholek, David Krebs, David Smith and Madison Busch visited Cancun, Mexico, for five days.
Last weekend was Family Day at the Purdue Evans Scholarship House. The day started off with families arriving around 11:30 a.m., followed by tacos for lunch at noon. There was a very good turnout with the entire chapter room being filled with families and Scholars. After lunch, seniors gave two-minutes speeches reflecting on their time at Purdue, what it means to be an Evans Scholar, and advice for the lower classmen on how to succeed in the next couple years. After that, some families went to go bowling and walk around campus.
Looking into the future, our Scholars are getting prepared for New Scholar Day on April 8. This is always a very exciting day for the lower classmen because they get to see who they are going to be spending a majority of their time with for the next two or three years. The day will consist of coffee and bagels in the morning, guest speakers, a campus tour, a meeting with the executive board, and will conclude with a barbeque in the backyard.
