- Purdue Evans Scholars exploring Chicago
during Winter Outing
Currently in the month of February, Purdue Evans Scholars are recovering after a long and exciting weekend at Winter Outing and Golf Ball. Our Scholars explored the city of Chicago, visited museums, and ate at everywhere from Portillo's to Giordano's. Our boys' basketball team started off hot with a victory against Northwestern, but fell short in the second game against Michigan. Overall, everyone had a great time over the weekend and were able to relax, reflect and watch the Super Bowl in the game room on Sunday.
Despite only being a month into second semester, our new executive board has been able to start off on a good foot. The first big event we have planned for our chapter is our annual blood drive on Feb. 14, Valentine's Day! Last year, Evans Scholars helped provide 160 patient transfusions, and we are aiming for more this year.
On another note, our resident advisor and Evans Scholars Alum Frank Vandeputte won the Bruce Kendall Award for Excellence, awarded to the COM senior who has made the most significant contribution to communication among his or her fellow students, faculty and administration at Purdue. This award shows how hard Frank works in his classes, while also always being there to support our Scholars when in need.
Looking forward into the end of February, our executive vice president has planned our Dad's Day to be on Saturday, Feb. 24. The event should consist of bowling, eating, laughing, and just overall having a good time.
Lastly, our academic chair has really been pushing our Scholars to sit down and focus on the work that needs to get done and where to find the resources if they need help in any classes.
